- For scale, the frame is 26 3/4 inches long and 9 1/8 inches wide.
- Still missing are the safety chains which will come when I more permanently
mount the tender to the trucks.
Now it's on to the tank!
Frame with decking.(Sorry about the black on black.)
the frame is built:
- a view of the frame.
- closeup of the drawbar end,
- and of the coupler end, with the side
bearings.
- here's what it takes (plus a bunch more rivets and
bolts). The coupler and drawbar pockets, kingpin centers and frame braces
are built up from stock and silver soldered; the side braces are cast in
aluminum from my pattern. The coupler castings are purchased - I decided not to
use link and pin couplers even though prototypical. The rear truck rides on
side bearings. A friend (with a tablesaw) cut the wood out of leftover alder
from a breakfast room table. The decking isn't in the photo (guess I forgot
it); it's 27 pieces of 1" x 1/4" x 9 1/8"; screwed down where
necessary for access to the kingpins and drawbar pin.
The frame to 2AUG99.
On the trucks.
